EVERYTHING BUT THE CAMEL

Ms. Cathy, Carter's sitter, is amazing. I have no idea how we happened to find her when we were looking for a sitter last summer at the exact same time she had an opening. Carter loves her. Every night before he goes to bed, he asks if he can go to Ms. Cathy's tomorrow.

I don't think I've ever met a person so committed to making sure kids have a fun, healthy and safe environment. She's a state licensed provider that works out of her basement. But it's no ordinary basement. It's a magical daycare where kids learn manners, eat vegetables, write their ABCs, paint, read, hatch chickens in the Spring, grow sunflowers in the Summer, and have a petting zoo in the Fall.

And that brings us to today. This was Carter's second experience with the petting zoo at Ms. Cathy's. He did much better this year than last. He actually pet 99% of the animals. He bottle-fed a goat and brushed a cow. But he still wouldn't go near the camel. The camel was a problem for him last year as well. I'm not sure if it is the look on his face or the strange sound that comes from his throat that causes more fear in Carter. But he will not stand within 15 feet of that humped-back mammal.

A big thank you to Ms. Cathy for providing a half-hour of entertainment but 2 days of conversation for our little dude.
